In honour of the world famous Cinco De Mayo, during the month of May, Hard Rock Cafe (HRC) brings to you their new festival – Taste of Mexico. Experience the savoury heat of fiery foods and authentic Mexican flavours catered to the desi palate. Muy caliente!
What We Ate:
Samosette of Spicy Corn & Cheddar Cheese – These crispy fried phyllo triangles are a must-order (vegetarian or not!). They’re stuffed with corn that is blended with mixed spices and ooze out lovely cheddar cheese with every bite. Loved the in-house tangy pesto mayo that came with it too!
Fiesta Chicken Quesadilla (below) – The chicken al pastor was cooked to perfection. What gave this quesadilla an element of surprise was a fresh grilled pineapple sort of salsa that broke the monotony of all the usual picante sauce, chipotle paste and cilantro. The dip served with this was a sour cream spicy sauce guacamole, and it’s safe to say we polished this off.
Vegetarian Tacos (below) – If you’re a hard core taco lover, this would be a good option for a vegetarian main. The shells were loaded up with chipotle potato, quinoa, pico de gallo and tangy tomatillo salsa. We’d recommend you ask them for an extra sprinkling of queso!
Chicken Tinga Tacos – We’re suckers for soft shell tacos, which is why we had to try these. Filled with shredded chipotle chicken, tomatillo salsa, queso, avocado, picante and cilantro sauce, you get authentic Mexican flavours. Our favourite part was the sprinkling of soft queso on top that went will with the slight crunchiness of the other ingredients. These tacos may get a little too fiery, so keep that in mind.
Tijuana Chicken Sub Roll – When you bite into the sub, you’re hit with a handful of flavours that blend together to give you a cheesy meaty delight because of the Tijuana spiced chicken and cilantro laced with cheddar cheese sauce. There’s a chargrilled smoked chicken frankfurter in the middle, which was a surprise, albeit a pleasant one. You also get a side of mouth watering fries that only come with this dish!
Mexican Bulldog Margarita (below) – As you can see this delicious monstrosity of a drink is a cascade of beer in a frozen margarita. Strangely enough, it’s not all that strong, but we definitely recommend sharing it with somebody.
Diablo (below) – This glass comes with summer’s favourite seasonal fruit; the mango mixed with cucumber and tequila with a hint of ginger beer.
Cranberry & Lychee Margarita (below) – This gorgeous concoction (and possibly our favourite of the lot) is a perfect blend of lime juice, tequila, lychee and cranberries. Pssst, we suspect it’s the secret ingredient split over the rocks that gives this one an edge!
Trouble Maker – If you have the stomach for a strong one, this drink complete with tequila, jalapeno bits and Cointreau is the one for you.

The folks at HRC have introduced an element of fun in addition to their new Mex menu. There’s a game that every diner who orders off these specials can get to play and it’s called the Macho Nacho! The HRC staff competes with your tag team. All we are going to say is, it involves a lot of hand to eye co-ordination and free nachos in your belly 😉 xx
