The IHB Guide to Malleswaram – what to see and what to do!

Fast emerging as the downtown hangout for north and east Bangalore, here’s a guide on what-to-do at Malleshwaram.

Binge on a mighty South-Indian breakfast – The foodies that we are, of course we checked these ones out first! From buttery dosas at CTR and fluffy idlis at Veena Stores (with chutney to die-for) to crunchy vadas at Hotel Janatha, Malleshwaram has it all. Though you have to wait in line to get a table or brave a queue to savour the delicacies, we can promise you that it is worth the wait and a good way to work up the much needed appetite. Sunday mornings are made for food like this – wake up early so aren’t disappointed that they have already sold out!

Shopping + a meal by the lake at Orion Mall – Indulge in a shopping spree of all your favourite brands under one roof. With a host of international chains that have the latest collections on offer, Orion Mall is a great place to shop without the noise and clutter of a city central mall. Debanhams, Zara, Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger and Celio are a few of the biggies to look out for. End the day with a decadent meal at any one of the lakeside restaurants on offer, outside the mall.

Rock Night at 1522 – Remember the days when rock ruled Bangalore and no beer could be had without head banging to some legendary classics? 1522 takes you back to those days as one of the few pubs in luru that stays true to this genre of music. Their walls are decorated with names of bands that any rock fan will be thrilled to acknowledge and their quirky interiors stand out for being bright and chirpy. A personal favourite of ours is the Mandarin Mojito while their food menu has a variety to choose from.

Kadu Malleshwara Temple – The most prominent landmark that stands as a reminder of Malleshwaram’s rich history and culture. A 17th century structure dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple attracts hundreds of people during festivals. The music and dance performances organised from time to time are almost like a local celebration for the inhabitants, so maybe pay a visit without the crowds.

Sweet tooth binge – Malleshwaram’s local ice cream parlours and sweet shops serve the most delicious combinations of homemade desserts.  Bring home a family pack from Amrith Ice Cream Parlour or gorge on Indian sweets at Asha Sweets Centre. You won’t be disappointed!

A night out with the gang– Dress up in your best and treat yourself to a night-out at High Ultra Lounge or District 6. Located on the 31st floor of the world Trade Centre, High offers a spectacular view of the cityscape. District 6, on the other hand, has one of the best home brews in town. Plan your visit during their event nights with bands or stand-up for some entertainment while you chug away.
