Winter is here.. and so is The Ice and Fire Festival at The Irish House!

Sound Garden Bangalore: Know everything about India’s first ever interactive music museum!

‘Music is a piece of art that goes in the ear and straight to the heart.’

Bangalore never fails to disappoint when it comes to churning out an exciting list of ‘things-to-do’! And, the brand-new addition to this list is an innovative concept that caters to the sentiments of music & nature lovers, alike, brought to us by the The Indian Music Experience Trust. Judging from how things are shaping up, you can anticipate a musical harmony like no other! Termed as the first interactive musical museum, the garden synchronises its space among a museum area, an interactive installations area and a garden cafe. Though the main museum structure is yet to open, the outdoor area itself, offers an immersive experience already.

Let the music play…

Unlock your self-expression, intelligence and creativity with the various installations at the Sound Garden that will put your mind to the test and echo your passion for music. The curators behind the model were keen to provide an experiential zone that not only serves as entertainment, but also outlines the basics of music as a combination of various sounds & vibrations.

#IHBSays: Be sure to explore the Humming Stone which resonates your own little tune in the form of frequencies & vibrations. On the other hand, the Xylophone makes for a great group activity and team building exercise. The mechanism is designed such that it appeals to the senses of touch, sight and hearing, creating a melody of sensation.

A tapestry of tunes…

The museum that is expected to open in a few months is prepping up for providing an experience of its own. With as many as eight thematic galleries that are being planned, the exhibition will include a display of progression of all Indian music (including classical, folk & Bollywood) and the rich culture that it unfolds. Got your preview into the science of sound & vibration at the installation area? Put your learning into practice by composing your very own jingle at the mini studios and mixing consoles at the museum!

Learn the (universal) language…

A learning centre is also on offer at the venue – a perfect place to channelize all the inspiration invoked during the visit. With a calendar that is said to include workshops, performances and ongoing lessons in music, it is definitely a space to watch out for. You can even get a diploma in music, under the guidance of the expert teachers from The Centre for Indian Music Experience!

Munch on these Bangalore: The Christmas goodies list is here!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas favours all the way, oh what fun it is to have a food coma for the next few days. Bet you sang that in your head, ha!

If you haven’t figured out your Christmas goodies this year, keep calm and read on. We assure you, you’ll be the centre of attention at your next holiday do. In addition, we’ve compiled DIY style home-made alternative for all the below since it’s all about keeping with the spirit of the season – spending time with loved ones and gorging on these once-a-year treats.

For a drool-worthy Christmas this year, the must-haves on your table should feature the following:

Plum Cake – Christmas ain’t Christmas without some good ol’ fashioned boozy plum cake. When you go cake-shopping look for a moist cake with the right amount of dry fruits – not the tutti-frutti doughy kind. Our recommendations for good last-minute plum cake this season are from Thoms, Santanam, Sugar ‘n’ Spice at Taj Vivanta, Bangalore Baking Company at JW Marriott and Desserted Cafe.

DIY: Make your own classic plum torte by following this easy recipe here.

Eggnog – Eggnog in Bangalore is a rarity. We’ve only spotted it on 2 menus so far – Cafe Cerisse & Sue’s Kitchen

DIY: We found this recipe here, to be particularly simple and indulgent.

Indian Xmas treats – One of our favourite childhood memories is sitting around the table with the entire family making rose cookies, murukus and kalkal. These traditional Indian Christmas specialties are always best home-made. But you can find quality (and tasty) readymade ones at Thoms, Santanam and Nilgiris too.

Christmas Cookies – We cannot get over how yummy and cute the sugar cookies from Munchies (Brigade Road) were. We ordered these for a Christmas party last year and they’ve been on our mind all year. They were a custom order, so make sure you order yours ASAP! Psst their number is 080 41126336.

DIY (below): Betty Crocker has an amazing alternative that looks incredibly gorge-worthy. Recipe here.

Wine/Mulled Wine – The perfect way to pull all these delicious goodies together is a good bottle of wine, and for those chilly winter nights there’s nothing better than a glass of piping hot mulled wine. If you can’t get your hands on home-made wine, Not Just Wine & Cheese and the Drops outlets have a great selection. As for mulled wine, we recommend Toscano and District 6 orrr…..

DIY – You could just look up at our very own recipe here!

All of the above make lovely thoughtful presents. You can even pack them off as party favours for your guests to take back home! Well, if that’s the case, don’t forget our invite please 🙂 xx

Happy Holidays!

The M.G. Road Boulevard – A Bangalore Landmark That Transcends Time

The very thought of the M.G. Road Boulevard takes the Luru patriot down the road of nostalgia. And, such is the magic of this attraction that even the tourists who have witnessed the charisma of the landmark would vouch for it. I’m sure we are already running a mental showreel of the facelifts and refurbishments that the boulevard has gone through, right from the days that it served as a lush green walkway for an evening stroll to becoming a cultural hub in the city centre, today:

The Rangoli Art Centre: The vivid Pink Bougainvillea that the avenue used to sport in its earlier days has given way to a brighter display of vines as the colours fall in place to synchronize with that of a rainbow. The thought of blending this parade of colour with the 7 musical notes imperative to Indian music, gave rise to the name of this urban public space.

The Nagara Pete – A marketplace for fairs and bazaars that make for shopping with a twist. Specially committed to encouraging handmade artifacts sold by artisans who otherwise lack a platform.

Vismaya, Chaya & Belaku – The Three Art Galleries with an array of fine art on display.

Chilipili – An interactive play area where you can enjoy a game of snakes and ladders or use the space to play your favorite childhood game with your kids. The playground is also suited for children with special needs.

Hoovina Haadi – The upper walkway decorated by Bougainvillea that also hosts a restaurant for a quick and delicious bite.

Bayalu – An open area for outdoor performances (arrive early to get your spot up front!)

Friendship Point – Based on an ancient folklore tale, this area is dedicated to making new friends and creating memories with existing ones.

Info Wall – Dating back to 2000 years of Bangalore’s history, an interesting insight into the city’s memoirs.

Green Initiation Area – Walk through and see how many of the exotic plants you’re able to recognize!

Spaces for artistic activities and workshops also available throughout the 500m long and 30m wide hub.

Every weekend, the centre unfolds to showcase a variety of events, activities and exhibitions that encourages city folk to explore the culture, history and creativity through visual and performing arts. A must-visit for old and new Bangaloreans, as well as visitors to the city for an outing well spent. Each trip helps you learn a little bit more about our beloved city!
